The short period in which the “Omoluabi principled” Western region operated was able to produce startling results! The greatest asset was off course the Omoluabi foundation and then we had cocoa and other products. Before the shackles were restored we had built up modern cities with skyscrapers and edifices to match any European civilization. We had high quality road networks, efficient water distribution systems, radio stations, first television station and first stadium in Africa. An expanded electrification network was created to support the housing estates and industrial base which included cocoa processing, printing plants, industrial packaging firms, wood processing plants, cement factories, insurance companies, real estate firms, construction companies, pharmaceutical plants, research installations
INDEPENDENCE GAMES
We were outwitted by the colonial genius when we returned to the negotiating table to win liberty for the contraption called Nigeria but lost all the Omoluabi momentum that we had gathered. The British wired everything to ensure the northern domination of Nigeria and succeeded. The Northerners were themselves slow in catching up with the brilliance of the British plan but once they cottoned on they adapted to its advantages with ease. Even the independence ceremonies were a prophecy to the Omoluabi areas as insult after insult was leveled at Obafemi Awolowo prompting tears from his wife! The golden years of the Western region came to an end abruptly and everything went into a tail spin from which we have not recovered. The British retired to laugh at a distance and the sun set on the hopes of an African civilization. The ancient curse of divisive wrangling returned to our spheres and the Omoluabi star dimmed. As the detonators primed by British intelligence began to explode in our colonial contraption bloodshed covered the land. The military seed germinated and coup after coup announced the brutal success of the colonial plan.
